Ottawa finally has a rib restaurant worthy of visiting.
Off the main Byward Market square in a restored house is The Smoque Shack. Tables are branded with its logo and big screen televisions are perched in the corners.
It's not fine dining, but it is the destination for fine food. I ordered the sampler platter that can be shared with one friend (but not with two)! It came with Jamaican jerk chicken that was lip-tingling good. The pulled pork had a dash of sweetness, and the meaty pork side ribs were extremely tender but not quite soft.
Do you use a fork and knife or your fingers? I opted for fingers. Finger food tastes even better.
The corn bread had a nice outer crust and rich corn flavour. From a friend's basket, I stole fries, which were seasoned with a signature salt and spice medley.
If you're looking for a Smoque break, be prepared to lick your fingers.
