Shaw Communications unveiled plans Wednesday for new corporate headquarters in downtown Calgary that include 12 floors of a unique high-rise and a complete renovation of the fire-damaged Shaw Court.
CEO Brad Shaw said the headquarters “will form a new anchor of development in Calgary’s downtown, while setting a new benchmark for innovation in workplace and office design.”
In addition to the renovated Shaw Court, which was struck by fire last July, the communications company plans to occupy a major section of 3 Eau Claire – a pair of office towers standing 48 storeys and 42 storeys high and connected at the top –located across the street.
Shaw has also secured the naming rights to 3 Eau Claire.
Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi said the move will provide a “lasting contribution to a vibrant city centre.”
“This project will be an important part of the downtown core and Calgary’s economy,” Nenshi said.
Constrution on the two towers is set to begin this summer and be completed by 2016. Shaw Court, meanwhile, is expected to reopen in the spring of 2014.
When both projects are finished, the company said its downtown office space will provide for up to 2,000 employees and total 540,000 square feet.
