Before planes take to a new runway at Calgary International Airport, residents are being offered a chance to jog or walk the strip.
Billed as a "once-in-a-lifetime experience," the Run and Roam the Runway event features 8.4-kilometre and five-kilometre runs on June 14 and a "roam" event June 15.
Access to the event is limited, with 1,400 spaces in the run and 10,000 in the roam.
"The wonderful thing about this celebration is that all the event ideas came directly from Calgarians," said Jody Moseley, spokesperson for the Calgary Airport Authority.
For more information or to register, head to yycrunway.com. The event will include Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod from BodyBreak and Amazing Race Canada. Proceeds raised with benefit KidSport Calgary.
The 4.2-kilometre runway, which runs parallel to and existing stretch at YYC and is the longest in Canada, officially opens for air traffic at 2 p.m. June 28.
