Calgary's unique International Festival of Animated Objects announces 2015 lineup

Calgary's unique festival of puppetry announced its lineup Wednesday.

The seventh bi-annual International Festival of Animated Objects runs March 7 through March 15 and features an array of eclectic artists from across North America and such countries and Israel and Belgium.

Celebrated Calgary company, The Old Trout Puppet Workshop, will bring back their hugely popular show, Famous Puppet Death Scenes, as well as their new young-audience production, Trunk Puppet, which has its western Canadian premiere March 14 and 15 at the No. 1 Legion downtown.

Other highlights include The House by the Lake from Israel’s Hazira Performance Art Arena, The White Woman by Montreal’s Magali Chouinard, In The Workshop by Belgium’s Top Theatre and the saucy stylings of The Dolly Wiggler Cabaret, hosted by former Calgarian and current Cirque du Soleil performer, Mooky Cornish.

Performances take place at the No. 1 Legion, EMMedia, Cite des Rocheuses, Theatre Junction Grand and Arts Common.

It was also announced the festival’s presenter, the Calgary Animated Objects Society, will pass producing duties over to Bob Davis and Old Trout Puppet Workshop co-founder Peter Balkwill for the next festival in 2017.

“The Old Trouts and I share a long and sordid history stretching far beyond their ranch-house genesis,” CAOS executive director Xstine Cook said in a statement.

“So it’s with great confidence and expectation that I pass IFAO torch to (Balkwill and Davis.)”
