Before she was even out of the door after being laid off from her oil and gas job last October, Kendall Titchener was already well on her way to realizing her dream of running her own company full-time.
Titchener’s company, Pixelated Pintos, handles digital marketing for startup companies. Being a startup herself, Titchener’s first task was figuring out how a startup digital marketing company for startups digitally markets itself.
A complicated question with a straightforward answer: by reaching out.
On her website, Titchener created a resource guide for startups within the city – anything from finding networking events, co-working spaces and even venture capital firms.
She said this has allowed her to tap into the Calgary startup community, make connections and provide a resource as a free passion project to help other people.
The business side of Pixelated Pinto, meanwhile, helps startup companies focus on building a product.
“When your focus is getting a product off the ground, you’re refining that product and getting it to market – so this aspect of it, the digital marketing for startups, is really where I saw a need,” she said.
Titchener said creating a digital presence is more than just opening a Facebook and Twitter page.
“A lot of people don’t clearly identify their objectives and goals,” she explained. “Anyone can go on social media or online – it’s why are you there? When you have the why, that helps to properly execute the tactics and the how.”
The bigger picture is focused on branding and building a loyal following. Building content calendars, and then reacting to what people are talking about to build relationships, she said.
