Former Alberta Party candidate charged with child luring

Airdrie RCMP says Terrence Lo of Calgary faces eight charges including abduction and sexual assault

Allegations of internet luring and sexual assault involving an underage girl have led Airdrie RCMP and ALERT's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) to arrest and charge a Calgary man.

According to Insp. Gordon Sage of the Airdire RCMP, on Sept. 14, they responded to a teenage girl's complaint of sexual assault.

Sage said the underage girl had met the suspect through social media, where he identified himself as a 34-year-old man named ‘George.' They began communication via a cell phone app, and arranged to meet in Airdrie, where the offences occurred.

With the information provided, the Airdrie RCMP liaised with Calgary ICE and did an undercover operation in order to obtain further evidence.

Investigators have identified the suspect as 45-year-old Terrence Lo of Calgary. Wednesday he was arrested by the RCMP outside an Airdrie restaurant, where he allegedly resisted arrest but was eventually detained without further incident.

Sage said this case is an example of why parents need to monitor their children's online and cell-phone activity.

"Parents need to know who their children are communicating with in the public," he said.

Sage said if parents see concerning communications to contact police immediately.

"Police will take it very seriously and investigate very quickly," he said. "Police make these cases a priority and this was investigated as one."

Calgary ICE confirmed to Metro that the suspect is the same Terry Lo who previously ran for office provincially for the Alberta Party. He resigned after making a "priest and rabbi joke." Before that, Lo was a riding board member for the Wildrose party, but resigned because he believed it was being controlled by a bigoted minority.

Lo is facing eight charges including child luring, sexual assault and abduction.

Just an hour before the RCMP released charges against Lo tweeted a quote about character which read: I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions. - Augusten Burroughs #quote

He has been released from custody with conditions, including not communicating with anyone under 18 and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 6.

Twitter users expressed shock online Wednesday over Lo's charges.
