Alvin Clifford Chinquay, 40, has been identified as the victim of an assault at the Calgary Remand Centre on Sept. 9.

Police say a man assaulted at the Calgary Remand Centre earlier this month has died.

According to police, Alvin Clifford Chinquay, 40, was assaulted at the Calgary Remand Centre on Sept. 9. On that date, EMS and the Calgary Fire Department were called to the remand centre for reports of an inmate in medical distress.

Crews found him in life-threatening condition and he was resuscitated before being taken to hospital.

On Sept. 22, he was taken off life support.

Police say an autopsy has been planed to determine the cause of death, but no date has been set.

CPS homicide unit is investigating, and charges are pending against the victim's cellmate.
