Airdrie RCMP don't want citizens feeling threatened by those people dressing up as clowns and causing a ruckus.

Airdrie RCMP don't think it's too funny if you're dressing up as a clown and harassing the general public.

While no charges have been laid to date, police say they've responded to at least 10 Airdrie-wide reports and 911 calls over the past few weeks about suspicious people dressed up as clowns, or wearing similar costumes and masks.

Airdrie RCMP said they don't believe the incidents are related, but a couple of the cases remain open for further investigation.

They would like to reiterate that it's not a crime to dress up in any costume, "when done in good fun," but it is illegal to harass and intimidate the public.

And while the nefarious game of dress up has been pretty "low grade" in terms of severity, Cst. Jennifer Weedmark of the Airdrie RCMP said they want to reassure the public they're on top of the situation and are keeping tabs on any potential escalation leading up to Halloween.

Charges of mischief, causing a disturbance or uttering threats could be laid depending on the severity of any one of these situations they're investigating.

If anyone has information about any of these instances, please call 403-945-7200.
