The library cost $100.4 million, with the Government of Alberta contributing $88.4 million to complete the build. It will provide more study space to students, but also be open to the surrounding community.

The Riddell Library gets its name from a generous gift from the Riddell Family Charitable Foundation as part of the University’s Changing the Face of Education fundraising campaign and now that it's complete, its changing the face of the campus.
