Pharmacists in Newfoundland facing charges

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Two pharmacists in Newfoundland have been charged with drug trafficking and defrauding the province's prescription drug plan.

They are to appear in court today for the start of a preliminary hearing.

The hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to go ahead with a trial.

John Gerald Whalen and Lloyd Matthew Bennett were pharmacists at East End Pharmacy in St. John's.

Hundreds of charges were laid against them last year.
