ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A 17-year-old girl has been sentenced for her role in a violent robbery and assault on a disabled man in Mount Pearl, N.L., last year.
The girl was sentenced to six months of open and supervised custody Tuesday after pleading guilty to robbery with violence, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of stolen goods.
A charge of assault causing bodily harm was withdrawn.
Provincial court heard the girl arranged to meet the 24-year-old victim for a date at a local movie theatre last Nov. 28.
The man, who has a physical and mental disability, was then lured into a wooded area where he was beaten and robbed.
Three teenagers have already been sentenced in the case, while a teenage boy will be sentenced May 4.
According to the provincial Department of Child, Youth and Family Services, youths sentenced to open custody typically spend most of their sentence in a group home before being released into the community under supervision.
