A Newfoundland woman says she's been given a March 11 deadline to get rid of her backyard chickens.

CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, N.L. — A family in the Newfoundland town of Conception Bay South says it's been told, in no uncertain terms, to get rid of its three chickens.

Alicia Penney-Harnum says a municipal enforcement officer and two police officers showed up at her door on Friday with a warrant that says the backyard birds must go by March 11.

Penney-Harnum says she was warned that failure to comply with the order could result in a fine, or even three months in jail.

She says the chickens help reduce her family's grocery bill, and that she's still contemplating her next move.
