LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Police in southern Alberta are looking for two suspects in a home invasion during which a pet dog was shot and killed.

Officers in Lethbridge responded to a call on Monday and found a man and a woman, who said two masked men had broken into the home, pointed a firearm at them and demanded money.

They said one of their two large dogs became aggressive and one of the intruders shot the animal.

The suspects fled after a struggle with the man in the home.

The dog was taken to the emergency veterinary clinic, but could not be saved.

Police say the break-in was targeted and drug-related.
