Senior citizens killed when their mobile home became engulfed in flames

FERRYLAND, N.L. — Police in a small Newfoundland community say an elderly couple was killed when their mobile home became engulfed in flames.

The RCMP say the fire broke out in the home overnight near the Colony of Avalon archaeological dig in the south coast town of Ferryland.

Firefighters say the trailer on Pools Road was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived.

The bodies of a 76-year-old man and a 64-year-old-woman were found at the scene.

Police are investigating, but say they don't suspect foul play.

Ferryland Mayor Adrian Kavanagh says the couple was well-known and counselling services were being offered to volunteer firefighters who responded.
