Edmonton police are singing the praises of a nine-year-old girl and a school administrator after the girl was the target of an attempted abduction in a northeast neighbourhood this week.
In a press conference Friday, Detective Leanna Kilb said the girl was walking home from school Wednesday near 45 Street and 137 Avenue when she was grabbed and a man attempted to put a cloth with a noxious substance on her face.
Police said the young girl kicked the man and ran away screaming.
“Her actions were, overall, extremely brave and that showed excellent character on her part. She’s dealing with this extremely, extremely well,” said Kilb.
The girl was also able to provide details of the suspect’s car and appearance to police, who spread the word to nearby schools.
On Thursday, a school administrator noticed a car matching the description circling the area and called police.
Rodrigo Tavares, 53, has been charged with kidnapping and administering a noxious substance.
She alludes to being sexually assaulted, but writes, "however you want to look at it, this was all my doing and I take full responsibility."
The blonde Bond is shaken, not stirred, by the thought of returning for a fifth film.
