RCMP in Whitecourt have determined that 49-year-old Dolan Badger, a well-known HIV support and outreach worker in Edmonton, died from assault Jan. 14.
RCMP re-iterated Wednesday that Badger’s death is not being investigated as a hate crime, and that Badger and the accused, William Kootenay, knew each other.
Kootney is charged with second-degree murder, and will appear in provincial court Jan. 22.
