Ideas for Edmonton wants to fund your great idea

What do a fleet of water taxis on the North Saskatchewan River, a reality television show about Edmonton makeup artists and a park lamp powered by dog poop have in common?

Edmontonians are seeking funding for all three of these projects.

Launched by Edmonton’s NextGen Ignite, Ideas for Edmonton, has $10,000 in funding available for projects like these that will make Edmonton a better place to live.

Not to be confused with Make Something Edmonton, Ideas for Edmonton is an online portal where the public can register ideas and cast votes for projects that could receive funding.

“Make Something Edmonton answers the question, what are you building? Ideas for Edmonton answers the question, how are you building what you’re making?” explained Sherman Tsang, co-chair of Edmonton’s NextGen Ignite.

Felicia Dewar wants to bring a “Park Spark” dog poop light to Edmonton and has registered the idea with both initiatives as a way to engage community members.

“I’ve put it on both websites, essentially because I want to get people looking at it and thinking about it and going, ‘geez, maybe this is a good idea,’ or, ‘you know what, I’ve seen another product that would work well for this,’” she said.
