City committee gives public consultation plan for Edmonton bike lanes green light

The city is doing things differently when it comes to talking about bike lanes, and the transportation committee is OK with that.

After hearing from stakeholders that not enough discussion on bike lanes was done in the past, city administration proposed a six-step consultation plan for bike infrastructure that could take up to two years, according to public engagement program manager Michelle Chalifoux on Thursday.

“We’re erring on the side of caution with consultation,” said Mayor Don Iveson during the meeting.

Council asked for a more detailed plan to go to the transportation committee on the public consultation for the four-year bike lane infrastructure plan.
