An incident that saw some nominate a driver for the Darwin Awards after a brazen pass on Highway 2 near Red Deer will not result in charges.

The Crown has withdrawn its charges of dangerous driving against a 20-year-old Calgary in connection with the April incident.

Kunal Anand was charged on April 10 after a video was recorded on a dash cam that showed a car squeeze between two other vehicles on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway near Bowden.

The car also passed another vehicle on the highway’s shoulder before speeding away.

The video quickly went viral after it was posted online.

Anand pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to go on trial today in a court in Red Deer.

But the Crown said after speaking to witnesses, there was no reasonable likelihood of conviction as no one would be able to positively identify who was driving, so the charge was withdrawn.
