Halifax police officer charged with sexual assault, due in court on Sept. 26

A 57-year-old Halifax Regional Police officer arrested last month is now facing one charge of sexual assault.

On Wednesday, the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT)  laid a count of sexual assault against Const. Dennis Dale Kelsey according to a release.

SIRT was called in on Aug. 6, when Halifax police relayed a sexual assault allegation made by a female against a male officer to the independent team. The charge stems from an incident at the woman's home on July 6.

On Aug.12, SIRT began the investigation and Kelsey was arrested on Aug. 20.

He was released on a promise to appear with conditions, and is due in Halifax provincial court on Sept. 26.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia,  including allegations of sexual assault.
