Where did you see the need for this book?
It was developed through my own experience. For years, I found it so frustrating to find contract work with the government. I didn't know what to do. I went from website to website and talked to offices and finally got all the information ... Getting work has been easier since.
There's a lot of work to be had. And I know writer and editor colleagues in the same situation, so I decided to put it together in a book.
Who is it targeted towards?
I really focused the book towards small businesses and the very small business owner.
I tried to relay it to the experience of sole proprietors, because I myself am a sole proprietor.
What's the best advice you can give someone looking to score their first contract?
Anyone that is starting out should go to buyandsell.gc.ca. It tells you everything you need. You should inform yourself and try to take one of the free seminars offered by the office before you write your first proposal. A lot of people are intimidated by the idea of writing bids, so you should have all the best information possible before you start.
