Small plane flips upside down during takeoff at Rockcliffe Airport

Two people walked away with only minor injuries after a plane they were travelling in overturned on the runway at the Rockcliffe Airport, Tuesday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Marc Messier said the Cessna 172 aircraft was taking off and hit a snow bank, which caused the plane to turn upside down in the snow next to the runway.

Ottawa Fire responded to the airport at 10:21 a.m. and confirmed the pilot and the sole occupant suffered only minor injuries.

Messier said fire crews remained on scene as a precaution and to check for fuel spills.
