Coffee Samaritan donates $860 in free joe at Ottawa Tim Hortons

Some java drinkers in Ottawa might have an extra spring in their step this morning and not just because of the caffeine injection.

A man who wished to remain anonymous generously donated $860 in free coffee to the Tim Hortons on Terminal Avenue Wednesday at about 6:35 a.m., according to manager, Melissa Dass.

The random act of kindness follows similar gestures in Edmonton and Calgary earlier this week where a customer walked into the store and racked up a $859 bill to pay for the next customer's orders.

Dass said the Ottawa man came into Tim Hortons at about 6:35 a.m.

"He didn't leave any information. He didn't reveal anything. He wanted to be secretive, just as a goodwill, generous donation to make people happy," Dass told Metro. "He said this is the second store he's chosen."

She said the donation could pay for more than 500 coffees.
