Suspicious death, alcohol related incidents occupy police at year end

While most Reginans were celebrating the beginning of 2013 on Monday the Regina Police Service rang in the New Year with a relatively busy day of policing.

Police were called to the 1100 Block of Robinson St. shortly after midnight on Dec. 31 for a report of a possible deceased male. The male was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The death has been deemed suspicious and the major crimes unit as well as the office of the coroner are investigating the death.

The suspicious death was not all police were dealing with on Monday; a unit was assigned to crowd control at bars throughout the city and to respond to any other calls.

Throughout New Year's Eve police received 156 calls for service. ‘Several’ of these calls related to alcohol and New Year's Eve festivities, there were no major calls for service in the evening, however.
