A man, who worked for a company under contract with the City of Toronto, fell to his death at a construction site in the city’s north end Tuesday afternoon.
Toronto fire and emergency services were called to the scene at Clayson Rd. near Wilson Ave. and Hwy. 400 around noon.
They found the worker at the bottom of a 14-foot trench. He was trapped under a slab of fallen concrete.
Paramedics tried to save the man but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The construction worker, who was employed by Rabcon Contractors Ltd., was helping install new sewer service connections for an industrial building, according to a statement from the city.
“Everyone in our company is in shock and grieving over the tragedy that occurred today,” said Rabcon spokesperson Sandra Segreto. “Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased.”
The accident is being investigated by the Ministry of Labour.
The city said it will cooperate fully with the investigation.
