A woman in her 60s was killed Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by a car in Scarborough, said Toronto paramedics.
The woman, a pedestrian, was hit on Midland Ave., near Finch Ave., in Agincourt, at around 2:40 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics said.
The portion of Midland Ave. between McNicol Ave. and Silver Star Blvd. will be closed while Toronto police investigate, said Const. Craig Brister. TTC routes are also diverting around the area.
Brister said the driver remained at the scene.
People 65 or older, in particular, account for roughly 60 per cent of pedestrian traffic deaths in the city annually, according to a Torstar News Service investigation. This year has been one of the deadliest for pedestrians in Toronto in at least a decade.
