Those who wish to participate in the public inquiry into the death of Robert Dziekanski have just over three weeks to submit an application.
The Braidwood Commission released the details of the application process yesterday. The hearing is scheduled to begin Oct. 20 in Vancouver and last six weeks.
Dziekanski, a Polish immigrant, died Oct. 14, 2007 after being Tasered by police at Vancouver International Airport. His death sparked a heated public debate about Taser use.
This will be the second phase of the inquiry, headed by retired B.C. Appeal Court Justice Thomas Braidwood. The first phase looked into the use, safety and effectiveness of Taser use by police forces other than the RCMP.
Applications for participation in the inquiry must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Sept. 5, 2008. The commission will also accept written submissions on policy issues by Nov. 28, 2008.
