Slideshow: Are you ready for Vancouver's Largest Waterfight?

Hundreds of gleeful people in bathing suits and flip flops will charge, water guns blazing, at Lumberman's Arch in Stanley Park Saturday for a wet and wild annual flashmob known as Vancouver's Largest Waterfight.

Jimmy Dean, a warehouse worker who is one of the organizers, said 300 to 500 are expected to attend for the seventh year running. The only rules are to be safe and not leave any mess behind.

"It's a free, family fun event. It's about community gathering, having fun, and getting wet, and teamwork as well, because a lot of people like to put little teams together," he said.

"Every year the park rangers in Stanley Park come and attend and they usually watch over, and they're usually smiling from ear to ear."

Dean, a waterfight veteran who has just purchased a brand new arsenal for this year, offered some tips for first-timers.

"A bigger gun is a better gun," he said. "There's lots of water to refill, the whole park is going so water is unlimited, and dodge the water balloons, because there's always someone who brings water balloons."

He'll be packing a battery-powered two-litre Super Soaker water cannon, freeing up his other hand to brandish a smaller pistol "for close range."

The original date set for last month got rained out, but with Saturday's forecast looking sunny with a high of 24 degrees, this one could last for hours. It starts at 1 p.m. and Dean recommends arriving before 2:30 to soak up the peak of the madness, but he said in past years it has lasted as late as 5 p.m.
