Vancouver's Wreck Beach tops list of best nude beaches in Canada

Vancouver’s Wreck Beach has been uncovered as the best nude beach in Canada, according to Hotels.com.

The world-famous nude beach ranked No. 1 as the best sandy spot to strip down in Canada, ahead of four other clothing-optional beaches across the country, according to the cheeky list compiled by the accommodation booking website.

“Due to its close proximity to UBC ... and downtown Vancouver, the beach is easily accessible making it a snap to find a great hotel like the Fairmont Vancouver Airport to stay at,” reads a news release. “Popular amongst naturists and tourists from countries around the world, the beach brings in over $60 million in tourist revenue annually.”

The list was barely a competition for the popular Wreck Beach, but the website's travel experts did place Hanlan's Point Beach on Toronto Island in the second spot, followed by Oka Park near Montreal, Crystal Crescent Beach in Nova Scotia, and Beechgrove in Scarborough, Ont.

The list was compiled to draw attention to the growing travel trend of “nakationing,” or naked vacationing. Although often thought to be a lascivious practice, according to Hotels.com, most nude beaches aren’t lewd at all.

“In fact, these beaches are usually patrolled for rowdy or unsavoury behaviour,” the news release reads. “Because of this, clothing optional beaches tend to be quieter, more peaceful and even family friendly.”
