London-Windsor OHL rivalry may have led to assault

A man from London, Ont. was assaulted in Windsor on Saturday by a zealous Spitfires fan.

According to police, the 23-year-old victim was visiting Windsor with his girlfriend for a friend's birthday. Around 12:45 a.m, the couple asked a man near Pitt Street and Ferry Street for directions so that they could hail a cab. The suspect was polite at first, but upon learning the couple was from London, he punched the 23-year-old in the face.

The man referenced the Windsor Spitfires and London Knights hockey rivalry prior to the assault.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'10" and 170 pounds. He is between 25 and 30 years of age and has short, shaved hair. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black jacket, white undershirt, jeans and white running shoes.
