New strip mall planned for site of Winnipeg's former Silver Heights club

Residents in the vicinity of the former Silver Heights Community Centre are invited to an open house that will provide information about a new strip mall in the works for the site.

Jatinder Sharma of R.V. Realty Inc., who bought the property at 2080 Ness Ave. this past July, said a small strip mall of up to nine units is intended to “fulfill the needs of the neighbourhood,” and could become a pharmacy, coffee shop, doctor’s office, physiotherapist, law or financial services office.

“I will describe what I’m doing, what my plans are and how I’m giving the best services to the neighbourhood,” said Sharma, adding preference will be given to professionals in the area when advertising for potential renters.

The open house takes place this Saturday, Nov. 3, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Stephen’s and St. Bede’s Church, 99 Turner Ave.

The Silver Heights club was closed after it amalgamated with the Sturgeon Creek Community Centre and became the Sturgeon Heights Community Centre.

The new Sturgeon Heights Centre, which was built for $5.63 million at 210 Rita Street, opened in April.

Coun. Scott Fielding (St. James-Brooklands) said he can’t comment on this strip mall because it is in the process of a rezoning request.

However, he does encourage residents to get more information at the open house.
