A Winnipeg-based architecture firm has won the Canada Council of the Art’s $50,000 Professional Prix de Rome for a unique project designed to start a global exchange about architecture.
Table for 12, spearheaded by 5468796 Architecture, will bring architects and their clients, journalists, politicians, artists and engineers from around the world together in eight different cities on four continents to discuss the state of design in their cities, their policies and what it takes to create a strong design culture.
“With Table for 12, 5468796 Architecture is position Canada as a global leader,” said the director of the Canada Council for the Arts, Robert Sirman in a release. “The project’s ambitions are perfectly aligned with the intent of the Professional Prix de Rome and the growing appetite for greater public engagement in cultural development.”
The first Table for 12 will be held during the Winnipeg Design Festival this September before moving on to cities including New York, Lisbon, Copenhagen and Tokyo.
The project’s findings will be shared at the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Festival of Architecture in Winnipeg next June.
