An Iowa man has made an unusual discovery in his backyard, piquing the interest of experts who study prehistoric life.
Two years ago, the man who wants to remain anonymous found the tip of five-foot-long femur buried on his property. Since then, he has found almost an entire skeleton of an undisturbed woolly mammoth, a 14,000-year-old creature from the ice age.
Although he enlisted help from the University of Iowa to help scan and analyze the massive bones, the mammoth remains still belong to him since they were found on his property.
"Sometimes I get tired of moving bones around from one spot to another," he says, adding they are quickly filling up his living room. Regardless, he has no plans to stop the dig.
