Cobbler the turkey wins presidential pardon

View 4 photos

The annual U.S. political tradition of pardoning a turkey from the dinner table saved big-feathered bird Cobbler this Thanksgiving. This year, the White House used Facebook to ask users to choose the turkey they would save. Cobbler was pitted against rival turkey Gobbler and came out on top.

President Barack Obama was joined by daughters Sasha and Malia to set the fowl free Wednesday. Cobbler will live out his days at George Washington's historic home in Virginia where he will be part of the Christmas at Mount Vernon exhibition.

Cobbler may have been saved from beheading, but we can't say the same for one poor bird during a visit to a turkey farm by then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin back in 2008.
