What can change in 17 years? Just ask Ilya Kovalchuk
by: Andrew Sztein July 25, 2010 6:03 PM comments: (2)
Sympathy for the devil: When it was announced that the New Jersey Devils had signed Ilya Kovalchuk to a 17 year, $102 million contract, many fans did a double take, and for good reason. After all, after seeing players like Rick DiPietro, Alexei Yashin, and Wade Redden sign incredibly lucrative long  ...more
From Russia with Love, Part Deux for the Senators

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it’s the most exciting signing by the Ottawa Senators in years! I can barely contain my excitement as I breathlessly type this sentence. Can you believe that the Senators have signed…… Jesse Winchester for two years at $750,000 a year?! I know! It’s amazing! Also, the Sens  ...more
What's on draught... err draft for the Senators?
by: Andrew Sztein June 26, 2010 5:11 PM comments: (2)
What if they held a draft and nobody came? : So I caught most of the draft last night on TSN, and I must say, it held all the riveting action and excitement that my Sunday afternoon nap did. Seriously though, it was an evening barely any trades, few surprises, and a bunch of charisma impaired suits  ...more

So here we are, on the eve of another Stanley Cup final, but this one has more intrigue and history behind it than any other series in recent memory. No disrespect to teams like Tampa Bay, Carolina, Anaheim and Dallas, but those teams don’t exactly scream “hockey market” in the same way that Chicago ...more

Growing up in Kanata when it consisted of one suburb, two farm houses and a barn, Andrew has been watching hockey and especially the Senators since he was old enough to realise the Ghostbusters weren’t a real occult crime fighting unit.

With an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Sens and their history, Andrew brings a unique perspective on the team, with (mostly) unbiased analysis and a sense of humour. Armed with an Alfredsson jersey, a quick wit, and his laptop, he is ready to do battle to defend the honour of the local boys in red at all costs, particularly against the foreign invading hordes of the blue cult (also known as Toronto Maple Leafs fans).

When not being obsessed with hockey, Andrew loves technology, video games, movies, music and hitting the surprisingly vibrant nightlife in the Ottawa area, all topics which will be covered in his blog from time to time as well.

Andrew is a graduate of Carleton University and Algonquin College, and is also the Associate Editor of Canadian gaming website gamingexcellence.com. He also covers local news as an intern for Metro News in Ottawa.
