An act of kindness doesn’t have to take a lot of time or money, but sometimes a little act, like a friendly hello in an elevator, can go a long way.

That is sometimes lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life, said Rabbi Reuven Bulka, the chair and driving force behind Kindness Week.

“It’s to celebrate the kindness that is, and the kindness that can be,” said Bulka.

This is the third annual Kindness Week.

After growing in Ottawa for the first two years, the week launches provincially today at Queen’s Park.

On Sunday, Bill Robinson and volunteers with the Rotary Club served a Valentine’s Day lunch to clients at the Ottawa Mission. “Them having contact with the community and seeing that the community cares must be a bit of a boost to them,” said Robinson.

Tomorrow, the Rotary Club will be visiting six community housing areas to give kids toques, shirts and pizza.

New this year is the Kindness Crew’s Suited for Success initiative, which is collecting professional clothing for people who are searching for employment.
