The Ministry of Environment is investigating after nearly 500 litres of diesel fuel spilled into a ditch when a tractor-trailer collided with a van in the city’s rural east end yesterday.

According to Ottawa Police Sgt. Don Lacasse, the truck collided with a van that reportedly attempted a U-turn at the intersection of Boundary Road and the Highway 417 exit ramp. The truck lost control and careened into the ditch, rupturing its fuel tanks.

The drivers were the lone occupants in each vehicle and no injuries were reported. Lacasse said the collision is still under investigation.

A fire services haz-mat team and cleanup crew was called in to contain the spill.
