The City of Ottawa has joined forces with Carleton University and the Talent First Network to deliver Lead to Win, a program that provides opportunities for laid-off high-tech workers to launch new technology businesses and get their products to market.

Based on the pilot for this program in 2002, which resulted in the creation of over 300 jobs and $90 million in venture capital investment in Ottawa, this program will be offered free of charge to 60 qualified candidates.

It is expected to create 196 new knowledge jobs, generate almost $16 million in payroll contributions and raise $20 million in direct investment over the next three years.

“The Lead to Win program is a wonderful example of how we can work together to create unique opportunities for Ottawa’s highly skilled labour force. We want to keep that talent here,” said Mayor Larry O’Brien.

The city will be providing $39,500 towards the program. The balance of the funding will come from other community partners and in-kind sponsorships.

The Lead to Win program will be offered in two instalments, the first planned to start in May and the second in October. Space is limited and interested individuals are encouraged to apply online at www.leadtowin.ca.
