Giving Like many teen boys, Wes Bauer looks up to his father.

“I always thought of him as invincible,” said Bauer of his father, CFL player Lyle Bauer. When he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2004, “it was hard on the family to see him taken out by something we couldn’t see.”

Today, his father, who is president and CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, is four years cancer-free, but the desire to help stuck with Bauer, now 20. He founded Chase the Cure and, on May 14, the Winnipeg native embarked on a cross-Canada bike trip. Yesterday, Bauer arrived in Ottawa, and will meet with officials at Parliament Hill this afternoon.

All funds raised benefit cancer initiatives in each province, he said.
