After vaccinating about 50 per cent of the city’s population before Christmas, Ottawa’s H1N1 clinics are back.

Starting Wednesday and running through Feb. 10, Ottawa Public Health will be offering its roving clinics.

While associate medical officer of health Dr. Nadine Sicard said Ottawa is past the peak of the second wave of the pandemic flu, Ottawa Public Health is still encouraging people to get the vaccine, and expects to vaccinate between 1,000 and 1,500 people per day.

While the original goal was to vaccinate about half of the population, the city needs to vaccinate between 70 and 80 per cent of residents in order to significantly decrease transmission, said Sicard.

Although the city is seeing “transmission at a lower rate,” Sicard said, “we’re still seeing some flu activity. The virus is still in circulation here in Ottawa.”

One person was hospitalized in connection with H1N1 over the holidays.

Seasonal flu shots will also be available at the clinics, which will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic High School, École élémentaire catholique Jean-Robert-Gauthier and Brookfield High School from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The schedule is available on the city’s website.
