Work on the $52.6-million southwest Transitway extension between the Strandherd Transitway Station and Jockvale Road begins this week.

During the first phase of construction, the eastbound lanes of Strandherd Drive between Greenbank Road and RioCan Avenue will be shifted to the north to make room for the new Transitway underpass. OC Transpo Routes 95 (Orléans), 181 (Bayshore) and 406 (Scotiabank Place) will be detoured onto RioCan Avenue.

Once this section is open, it will serve about 3,600 riders per hour during the peak period. Construction is expected to be done by March 31, 2011.
