Arrested Development, Calexico, and the Jim Cuddy Band are just a few of the acts headlining at the 17th annual Ottawa Folk Festival this summer.
To be held at Britannia Park from Aug. 13-15, the festival has gone in a new direction with groups like Arrested Development, festival director Dylan Griffith said yesterday.
“We’re looking at bringing in some new artists that will help to bring in a new generation of folk fans and music lovers to the festival,” he said.
One of those artists is Bahamas, he said, whose “breezy folk rock” was nominated for roots album of the year at the Junos last year. Bruce Peninsula, which incorporates elements of gospel, Appalachian folk, early blues, pop, progressive and punk in their music, will also be coming.
Formed for a one-shot performance during Vancouver’s Celtic Fest in 2006, Delhi 2 Dublin, which fuses tabla, fiddle, dhol, electric sitar, and Punjabi and English vocals, will be featured, along with local acts Jim Bryson, the Acorn, the Mighty Popo, Chris MacLean and Jill Zmud.
