The CIBC Run for the Cure isn’t until Oct. 3, but when you’re hoping to raise more than $26.5 million in one day, it requires a bit of a build-up.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is taking this whole week to get people ready, launching Paint Canada Pink Week across the country yesterday.

“What we’ve tried to do is plan some events that would appeal to different audiences,” said volunteer-run co-director Rachel Tweedy at the Ottawa launched event at the Hazeldeen Mall, yesterday.  “By getting the awareness out we’re trying to reach all those different audiences and tell them about our run.”

On Monday evening, they are holding a co-ed networking event for entrepreneurs at the Hazeldeen Mall.  On Thursday, they are organizing a dog walk in Bruce Pit.

Ottawa Gatineau volunteer run director Paul Lansbergen said they expect to have around 9,000 out at Lebreton Flats for the run in October.

Last year 56 communities across the country hosted a Run for the Cured, raising more than $26.5 million.
