A 48-year-old man is dead after falling off his bicycle and hitting his head on a curb early Thursday morning.
Based on witness reports, police believe the man was riding quickly downhill around 2:35 a.m. when he tried to brake quickly and was pitched over his handlebars. He landed headfirst on a curb. He suffered head and neck injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. No other vehicles are believed to be involved.
The man was a resident of the area and is known to police, but they are not releasing his name pending notification of next of kin.
The intersection section of Sweetland Avenue and Somerset Street East was closed until around 7:30 a.m.
