Students took on the roles of teachers yesterday at the Confederation Conference Hall as they discussed with their peers issues such as stress, career paths and making good decisions.

The For Youth By Youth (FYBY) News summit included themed workshops hosted by students from four Ottawa high schools.

“I think that peer-to-peer education is the most important thing,” said FYBY News founder Samira Ahmed.

“The idea is to give youth a voice in their education. What is it that’s missing from education?” she said.

Notre Dame student Katie Maione helped lead the Sculpting Your Life workshop with her peers to talk about how to make the right choices.

“I hope they learn that there are people there who can help you make your choices and that you’re never alone,” the 18-year-old said.

She said the hardest decision she is faced with now is what career path to take after graduating high school.
