Woodhands
Album: Remorsecapade
Label: Paper Bag
Rating: ****
Woodhands may only be a duo, but Dan Werb and Paul Banwatt have the energy of an over-capacity warehouse party. And that kind of location would best suit the uninhibited spirit of this album. Their songs work like a dual-action formula — they can evoke both the need for a dance-off and a heart-to-heart. Pockets sings about holding hands but sweats from the burst of disco punk, Sluts calls on erratic rhythms to address promiscuity as a unisex issue and Dissembler softens up for some smitten boy-girl electro pop. When The Party Is Over may signal an end to the party, but like a musical Viagra, Remorsecapade leaves you keyed up and ready to go.
