Broken Bells
Album: Broken Bells
Label: Columbia/Sony Music
Rating: ***

It sometimes seems like anything Danger Mouse touches turns to gold. He made Cee-Lo famous with Gnarls Barkley and helped turn Gorlliaz into something other than a Damon Albarn side project. He’s not as successful with the Shins’ James Mercer, but the collaboration still works. DM’s electro pop backing coupled with Mercer’s soft, soothing voice makes for some incredibly infectious tracks — Vaporize to name one — but other songs lack punch. It’s a good disc for sure, but with these two huge musical talents at the helm, it could have been a bit better.
