Album: Intimate
Label: Universal
Rating: ***

In earnest or not, who hasn’t sang Sometimes When We Touch to a loved one at some point? Well, now there are 15 more heart-on-sleeve adult contemporary tunes for us to caterwaul away to. Thank original emotional/sentimental songwriter Dan Hill, as this is his first album to feature new material since 1996 and the tear-jerker that is Intimate overflows with them. Soft ditties such as Sixties Child, You Know Just What To Say and, of course, the previously-mentioned touching ballad delivered in a piano/vocal rendition are decidedly syrupy. Still, as always, Hill is a great storyteller, delivering some wonderful sagas and personal reflections, even if it’s only appealing to those of a vintage where Matlock was provocative television.
