High-scoring winger suspended for Mooseheads season opener

The Halifax Mooseheads will be without Martin Frk for the opening game of the QMJHL regular season.

The 18-year-old right-winger was suspended last week for the Mooseheads’ final two pre-season games for a spearing incident in their Sept. 8 loss to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at the Halifax Forum.

But because the team’s final two pre-season games were cancelled this past weekend after nasty flu virus hit the team, Frk didn’t get to serve the suspension as administered, and the league adjusted it on Monday to a single game.

Frk, selected in the second round, 49th overall, by the Detroit Red Wings in last June’s NHL draft, had an assist in his only pre-season contest after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last month.

He had 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points in 34 games last season while missing more than three months with a concussion.
