ATHENS, Greece — Greek club Panathinaikos has fired coach Andrea Stramaccioni following a series of disappointing results.

The 40-year-old Italian was dismissed after a meeting Wednesday with the club's chairman — a day after Panathinaikos lost 2-1 to second-division club OFI in the Greek Cup.

A former coach at Italian clubs Inter Milan and Udinese, Stramaccioni took over at Panathinaikos last November.

Panathinaikos has only 15 points after nine matches in the Greek league, and is level in third place with AEK Athens. Olympiakos leads the league with 22 points.
